MY COLLEGE DEGREES & CERTIFICATIONS, TEACHING AND/OR PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

I have a Master of Education degree in Special Education from University of NC-Chapel Hill and a Master of Education degree in Special Education from North Carolina Central University. In addition, I have an add-on license from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in K-12 Literacy. I have been a National Board Certified Teacher for the past 20 years.
MY EXPECTATIONS FOR MY CLASS ROOM THIS YEAR
My expectation this year is for my scholars to BELIEVE in themselves and KNOW they are readers. We are a TEAM. We are going to have confidence in ourselves and work hard to obtain the skills needed to become better readers. We will be a community of readers who love books!
MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
I believe that the classroom is a community; and as a community, we learn from each other. Each student has the right to feel a part of this community. Students should understand that learning is not always about being right or wrong; and sometimes involves taking risks. Students should feel comfortable taking risks because they are in a supported community within their classroom — or in my case, their small group. All students should feel like a contributing member of the classroom (or group) community. As a teacher, my goal is to foster academic, social and emotional growth.
MY HOBBIES, INTERESTS & THINGS I DO OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL
I am a life-long learner and always searching for opportunities to learn new things. I enjoy watching movies and going to the beach. I absolutely love chocolate.
