    Our Academics & Curriculum

MINA Charter School of Lee County is a publicly funded charter school serving the students of Lee County and surrounding counties.

From our starting date in August 2020, MINA has been committed to using proven curricula, established teaching methods, an encouraging approach, and a supportive philosophy to help our students gain a love of learning and achieve their full potential.

Small class sizes allow our teachers to develop strong personalized educational plans for each student. We also place a high priority on serving a diverse student population.

There are several key components that set MINA apart from other schools.

    STREAM Curriculum

MINA has a strong focus on science, technology, reading, engineering, arts and math following a STREAM Curriculum. Our scholars are engaged in a blended learning environment using both technology and classroom teacher instruction. All of the core components have the ability to accelerate or scaffold students as they work through the modules of the curriculum. Each student takes a diagnostic test that will set their individualized path in their core curriculum. As they progress, they are assessed on each module. Students who master the concept move on; students needing remediation and review can work individually or in small groups with their teacher.

    Teacher Looping

In addition to following the STREAM Curriculum, MINA utilizes the concept of teacher looping for grades K – 3. “Looping” refers to the practice of a teacher remaining with the same group of students for more than one school year. In grades K-3, teachers will loop with their students, so one teacher will teach the same students for K-1, and then a new teacher will instruct students in grades 2-3. Looping has proven to be successful in not only teaching the core elements, but also building a rapport with students and parents. According to Justin Minkel in Education Week Teacher, one of the many benefits of looping is that “we teach students, not just subjects.” In the foundational years, this allows students to gain necessary base skills in reading and math that will prove valuable throughout their educational path.

    No-Suspension Philosophy

At MINA we believe that a child cannot learn if he/she is not present in school. For that reason we promote a non-suspension philosophy. You cannot teach a child, if you cannot reach the child.
